Window tint laws vary by state and are influenced by the type of vehicle you drive, which can make navigating the regulations confusing for many owners. When we designed our tint packages, we carefully considered these requirements with a strong focus on compliance for drivers in Illinois. To help you make informed decisions with confidence, we’ve outlined the key guidelines below.

Regarding reflectivity, Illinois requires that any tinted windshield or window remain non-reflective. Because the state does not clearly define what qualifies as “reflective,” we recommend checking with local authorities or community regulators to ensure your vehicle meets current standards.

Illinois Window Tint Regulations

Illinois also sets specific limits on how dark window tint can be, with rules that vary based on vehicle type. Windshield tint is limited to a sun strip that extends no more than six inches from the top of the glass. Tint darkness requirements differ for sedans versus larger vehicles.

For sedans, the front driver and passenger windows, rear side windows, and rear windshield must allow at least 35% of visible light through. For SUVs, minivans, and other larger vehicles, the front driver and passenger windows must allow a minimum of 50% light transmission, while the rear side and back windows may be tinted to any level.
